Wedding Tips & Info

Keeping or not keeping your maiden surname

Bride's surname options:

When visiting the Marriage Registry, the bride must have decided whether or not she will keep her maiden surname.

For example, Mary Abela is getting married to John Borg.  These are Mary's options... Mary Abela would become either

Mary Borg
or
Mary Borg Abela
or
Mary Abela Borg
or
Mary Abela (keep maiden surname)

What about the couple's children?

Children always take their father's surname with the option to take also the mother's, irrelevant of what their mother had chosen.

Thus the children's surname of this couple would be either;
Borg or Borg Abela or Abela Borg but never Abela on its own, the bride's maiden surname.

For some brides this decision might be understandably quite difficult.
You have been carrying your surname for at least 20 years and all your friends know you like that!  Will you feel uncomfortable changing it?  Will you feel that your identity has been changed?

The choice is yours!
