What
you can do in the months before your wedding
to look your best on your big day
Don't wait until the last minute to prepare
your skin, hair and nails for your wedding.
Here are some suggestions for preparing for
your big day:
SKIN
Avoid over exposure
to the sun or tanning beds. This can cause
your skin to become dry and sometimes
discolored.
Cleanse your skin with
the appropriate products for either dry,
oily, or normal skin; clarify (tone);
moisturize daily.
Apply eye cream every
night before bedtime. This will moisturize
the most sensitive part of your face.
It will help in reducing lines and darkness
around the eye area.
Never rub your face
with towels or any rough material. Blot
your face dry - GENTLY!
Never go to sleep without
cleansing your face. During sleep your
cells regenerate and will absorb what
is on your skin. If all you can do is
rinse your face with water, that is better
than nothing.
Use gentle, upward
strokes to when applying your moisturizer.
Once every few months
(some may need it more frequently) treat
yourself to a facial. It will help to
keep a nice glow to your face.
Be sure to apply sunscreen
of at least an SPF 15.
Many people forget
about their lips. If your lips are very
dry/chapped you can rub Vaseline on them
with a washcloth. The washcloth sloughs
off dead cells, and the Vaseline moisturizes.
HAIR
Take a daily multi-vitamin
(check with your doctor first). This will
assist in healthy hair, nails and skin.
Avoid excessive heat
from dryers, irons, rollers, sun, etc.
If your hair is colour
treated and you're in the sun, wear a
hat or mix sun block with gel and apply
it to your hair. Both will aid in the
prevention of oxidation and dryness.
Do not brush your hair
when it is wet. Only use a large tooth
comb and take small sections. This will
prevent tearing of the hair.
While your hair is
wet, do not rub it hard between a towel
or wrap it tightly on top of your head.
This can cause breakage leading to frizz.
Towel dry your hair by gently squeezing
it between the towel.
Do weekly protein and
moisture treatments. You can make your
own in your kitchen. Mix a few raw eggs,
mayonnaise, and a little olive oil in
a bowl (measure according to the length
of your hair). Apply the mixture to your
hair, cover your head with a plastic cap
and either sit under heat, use a blow
dryer, or keep placing hot towels over
the cap. Leave on for approximately 30
minutes. Do not shampoo out-only rinse
very well. The protein will bond and strengthen
the hair and the moisture will add shine
and elasticity.
Keep up with monthly
trims to avoid dead ends.
Cleanse your hair with
a clarifying shampoo 1-2 times a month.
This helps to remove any product build-up
or excess dirt/oils. If you are an avid
swimmer, you may want to do this once
a week. Do not do this in excess because
it will strip your hair of essential oils
and may make your hair feel hard and dry.
Always apply shampoo
to the roots and conditioner to the ends.
Scrubbing your ends with shampoo will
only dry them out. Applying conditioner
to the roots will only make your hair
flatter and lose body.
NAILS
Moisturize your hands
daily as often as possible.
For dry hands, get
frequent paraffin treatments or manicures.
Apply cuticle oil to
your nails every night before bedtime.
This really helps to soften and moisturize
the cuticle area. You will be surprised
what a difference it makes in the way
your hands/nails look.
Do not cut your cuticles
too much. This can cause them to grow
back thicker. The nail bed also relies
on the cuticle to nourish it.
