Chances are, your wedding will include children, even if you haven’t really planned on it. Children can be a wonderful and fun part of any wedding, as long as you’ve planned for them as you would any guest. For the children at your wedding, your goal should be to provide high entertainment with low supervision. Below are some ideas to help you get started.
- Create a special table just for kids! We could plan a kid’s table, whenever children will be a part of the wedding. A pair of bride and groom teddy bears holding colourful balloons or flowers (coordinating with your colour scheme, of course) can designate this special table.
- We could cover the table with white butcher paper and let the children write on it, play oxo or just draw. Let the kid’s create! I would need to know the ages of each child to make sure the gifts are appropriate. We would provide them with things like crayons, glitter pens, markers and a little goody bag as their own wedding favours. It is best to avoid nuts, as some kids can be allergic to them!
- We could provide them with special paper and get them to write a letter to the bride and groom (you and Paul). I could make a form for the letter using wide lines and write, Dear Bride and Groom (or personalize with your names) at the top. I can leave a blank border so they can decorate it themselves. I will have envelopes at the ready which they can decorate and draw their own stamps. I will create a box with a slot cut out for them to post the letters, using it as a mailbox. These will make lovely souvenirs for you both to enjoy years later.
- If you prefer, we can hire a children’s entertainer like a Balloonist or clown to keep them laughing. There is face painting, which can be a bit messy but a lot of fun too. You decide.
It is of course up to the parents to ensure they behave, but you can help create a special memory for them by simply including them in your plans. Years later, it will be fun to hear how much fun the young and young at heart, had at your wedding.
You could bring the teddy bears for the kiddies table yourself and keep them as a souvenir afterwards. I have seen them in Floral Designer in Qormi, Malta. They are dressed in the most beautiful hand made clothes complete with top hat and veil ! Outlets in the uk are- Clinton cards and Smart Ideas. There are the, ‘me to you’ collection that have the ceramic version as well as the soft toys. If you have a Bear Factory near you this is another option. It makes it more fun as you design your own bear. You get a birth certificate where you can give the wedding date as their birthday, they are given a name and you can have sounds put inside them. There are so many outfits you can choose from you can get carried away so be careful.
